## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the resolution. Quote the text, not the summary.

A Georgia House resolution would designate February 26, 2026 as Dale Murphy Day and formally urge the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Committee to induct former Atlanta Braves star Dale Murphy.

### Plain-language summary

This resolution honors former Atlanta Braves outfielder Dale Murphy, who played 14 of his 18 major league seasons in Atlanta. It recounts his career highlights, including two National League Most Valuable Player Awards, five Gold Glove Awards, four Silver Slugger Awards, seven All-Star selections, and career totals of 2,111 hits and 398 home runs. It also praises his charitable work and personal character off the field.
The resolution has two operative parts. First, the House of Representatives recognizes February 26, 2026 as Dale Murphy Day in Georgia. Second, it urges the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Committee to induct Murphy into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. It also directs the Clerk of the House to prepare copies of the resolution for distribution to the public and press. The resolution does not change any Georgia law.

### What it does

- Designates February 26, 2026 as Dale Murphy Day in the State of Georgia.
- Formally urges the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Committee to induct Dale Murphy into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
- Directs the Clerk of the House of Representatives to prepare copies of the resolution for public and press distribution.
- Recites Murphy's career statistics and awards as the basis for the recognition, without creating any new legal requirement.

### Who it affects

This mainly affects Dale Murphy himself, as an honorary gesture, and has symbolic relevance to Atlanta Braves fans and Georgia baseball enthusiasts. It does not impose obligations on any state agency, business, or resident.

### Why it matters

The resolution carries no legal or financial effect; it is a ceremonial statement of the Georgia House's opinion. Its practical significance is symbolic, publicly honoring Murphy and adding the legislature's voice to calls for his Hall of Fame induction.

### Key provisions

- The whereas clauses detail Murphy's 18-year career, his MVP and Gold Glove awards, and his statistical record of 2,111 hits and 398 home runs.
- The resolved clause designates February 26, 2026 as Dale Murphy Day and urges his Hall of Fame induction.
- A further resolved clause directs the Clerk of the House to make copies available to the public and press.
