House Resolution 142

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Dr. Shannon Walker; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Shannon Walker is a cardiovascular physician leader dedicated to improving health care outcomes and equity in underserved and diverse populations; and

WHEREAS, she serves as an assistant professor at the Emory University School of Medicine and an attending cardiologist at Grady Hospital, where she provides patient care, mentors trainees, and leads initiatives focused on the prevention of heart disease; and

WHEREAS, during her internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins University, she was selected by the faculty to serve as a chief resident and led the program through the COVID-19 crisis in 2020; and

WHEREAS, she pursued sub-specialty training in cardiology at the University of California at San Francisco, where she was voted "Best Fellow of the Year" by the Internal Medicine Division and was selected as a research fellow in the prestigious Chan Zuckerberg BioHub Fellowship; and

WHEREAS, throughout her training, she has applied her clinical skills in underserved areas both domestically and abroad, conducting research in Uganda, providing volunteer clinical work in Mauritania, and performing asylum evaluations for refugees through Physicians for Human Rights; and

WHEREAS, as additional testament to her dedication to those in need, she further served in remote hospitals on Native American reservations during the COVID-19 crisis; and

WHEREAS, she is a physician leader known for her determination, creativity, and compassion who has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to building a health care system focused on true wellness and equity; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Dr. Shannon Walker for her many outstanding contributions on behalf of the underserved and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr. Shannon Walker.
