A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and honoring Mickey Garber; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Mickey Garber is a lifelong resident of Clayton County whose life reflects unwavering service, community devotion, and the quiet strength of a man deeply rooted in the place he calls home; and
WHEREAS, born on November 30, 1947, Mr. Garber began his education at East Clayton Elementary School and graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1965, where he was voted "Friendliest" by his classmates - an early testament to the character and kindness that would define his life; and
WHEREAS, he worked on his family's egg farm until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1967; and
WHEREAS, during his service from 1967 to 1969, he distinguished himself by earning the highest physical training score in his platoon, demonstrating exceptional discipline and commitment to duty; and
WHEREAS, after completing his military service, Mr. Garber spent several years in Las Vegas, where he managed the swimming pool concession at the Circus Circus Hotel and worked as a craps dealer; and
WHEREAS, in 1980, he returned home to Rex, Georgia, to support his parents' expanding nursery business, where he remained a dedicated part of the operation until its closing in 2008; and
WHEREAS, after retiring from the nursery business, Mr. Garber has continued to serve his community with the same spirit that has guided him throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, he is actively involved in neighborhood and county improvement efforts, contributing his time, energy, and leadership to the betterment of Clayton County; and
WHEREAS, his good deeds include, but are not limited to, ensuring the neighborhood remains litter free, beatification efforts around Amberwood Estates, generously growing and donating vegetables, and supporting the Oakwood Trails NHW annual backnschool back2basics block party; and
WHEREAS, Mickey is a pillar of the community and for all his hard work has become affectionately known as the "Mayor" of Rex, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, his story stands as an example of the values that strengthen our state– dedication, humility, and a genuine desire to make one's home a better place.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and honor Mickey Garber for a lifetime of hard work, honorable service, and steadfast commitment to his community. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Mickey Garber.
