House Resolution 1429 By: Representatives Hatchett of the 155th and Jackson of the 128th A RESOLUTION Honoring and celebrating the 95th birthday of Mrs. Marthelle Powell; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Mrs. Marthelle Powell was born on May 24, 1931, the daughter of William H. and Evelle Mayo Blizzard; and WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, she attends New Home Baptist Church in Wrightsville, Georgia, where she faithfully served as the organist/pianist from the age of 12 until her retirement in 2025, an impressive span of 82 years; and WHEREAS, on November 16, 1947, Mrs. Powell became the bride of Roy Lynward Powell, and they enjoyed 67 years of marriage and were blessed with three children, Martha Lynn, Sharon, and Roy; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Powell is affectionately known as Grandma to seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and WHEREAS, she continues to enjoy gardening, flower arranging, sewing, quilting, painting, and making music; in the warm weather, you can usually find her working in the yard, or swinging on the porch swing enjoying the view of the garden; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Powell is a person of great strength and patience with a reputation for service and kindness, and by the example she has made of her life, she makes this world a better place in which to live, and it is only fitting and proper that she be appropriately recognized during this very special and memorable time of her life. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor Mrs. Marthelle Powell for her unselfish, dedicated, and loving service to the members of her family and community; join in celebrating the remarkable occasion of her 95th birthday; and extend their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Mrs. Marthelle Powell.
