## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the resolution. Quote the text, not the summary.

A Georgia House resolution would honor the late Jim S. Briscoe, Between's first mayor, by naming the intersection of State Route 10/US-78 and New Hope Church Road in Walton County in his memory.

### Plain-language summary

This resolution from the Georgia House of Representatives recognizes the life and public service of Jim S. Briscoe, a World War II Navy veteran and the first mayor of Between, Georgia, elected in 1970. It recounts his upbringing on a family farm, his military service as a machinist on a minesweeper, his later work at DuPont, and his tenure as mayor.
The resolution's operative effect is to officially name the intersection of State Route 10/US-78 and New Hope Church Road in Walton County the Jim S. Briscoe Intersection. It directs the Georgia Department of Transportation to put up and maintain signs marking the dedication, and it instructs the Clerk of the House to send copies of the resolution to Briscoe's family and to the Department of Transportation.

### What it does

- Dedicates the intersection of State Route 10/US-78 and New Hope Church Road in Walton County as the Jim S. Briscoe Intersection.
- Directs the Georgia Department of Transportation to erect and maintain signs marking the dedication.
- Instructs the Clerk of the House of Representatives to distribute copies of the resolution to Briscoe's family and the Department of Transportation.

### Who it affects

The resolution directly affects the Georgia Department of Transportation, which must install and maintain signage, and the family of Jim S. Briscoe, who will receive copies of the resolution. Walton County residents and travelers through the newly named intersection are also affected.

### Why it matters

If adopted, drivers passing through this Walton County intersection will see new signage honoring a local figure, and the change requires the Department of Transportation to spend time and resources installing and maintaining those signs, though it makes no other change to law.

### Key provisions

- The resolution's preamble recounts Jim S. Briscoe's biography, including his Navy service in World War II and his 1970 election as Between's first mayor.
- The first resolving clause names the intersection of State Route 10/US-78 and New Hope Church Road in Walton County as the Jim S. Briscoe Intersection.
- A further resolving clause directs the Department of Transportation to erect and maintain appropriate signs for the dedication.
- A final resolving clause directs the Clerk of the House to distribute copies of the resolution to Briscoe's family and the Department of Transportation.
