## Text

House Resolution 146
By: Representatives Lupton of the 83rd and Tran of the 80th
A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Gina Gallois; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Gina Gallois has dedicated her career to educating and inspiring children
through literature, using her passion for storytelling to foster a greater appreciation for
wildlife and neurodiversity; and
WHEREAS, her lifelong environmentalism and love of animals led her to recognize a
widespread lack of awareness about opossums in 2019, motivating her to take action by
visiting numerous classrooms and nature centers to share her appreciation for misunderstood
and under-represented critters; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of her contributions to environmental education, the Oatland
Island Wildlife Center in Savannah, Georgia, inaugurated a permanent storybook trail in
2024 featuring Mama Opossum's Misadventures in both English and Spanish, allowing
visitors to engage with her work while learning about local wildlife; and
WHEREAS, as the mother of two autistic children, she and her husband, Fabien, have
embraced and advocated for neurodiversity, and she has used her experiences to create such
wonderful works as Quantum Possum, which celebrates the diverse ways in which
individuals experience the world; and
WHEREAS, her Awesome Opossum Stories series, which introduces young readers to
fundamental concepts such as opposites, counting, comparison, and alphabet action verbs
through engaging narratives, has been honored with the prestigious Mom's Choice Gold
Award; and
WHEREAS, her distinguished literary contributions further include the Bug Club Story
series, featuring Cicada City and Moth Metamorphosis, as well as I Don't Want to be Scary
on Halloween and Cats and Dogs Make the Best of Friends; and
WHEREAS, as an advocate for multilingual literacy and a former professor of French
language and literature, she has ensured her books are available in French and Spanish in
addition to English; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this distinguished individual be
appropriately honored.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize and commend Gina Gallois for her outstanding
contributions to childhood education, advocacy, and environmentalism as well as extend best
wishes for future health and happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Gina
Gallois.
