A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Leopold's Ice Cream; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Leopold's Ice Cream was founded in 1919 in Savannah by brothers George
Leopold, Peter Leopold, and Basil Leopold, establishing a family enterprise rooted in
craftsmanship and community within the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, for more than a century, Leopold's Ice Cream has operated continuously in
Savannah as a Georgia-based manufacturer of premium, handcrafted ice cream, preserving
original family recipes developed in the early 20th century and sustaining traditional
small-batch methods; and
WHEREAS, now under the ownership of second-generation family member Stratton
Leopold, Leopold's Ice Cream continues to make its products within the State of Georgia and
source Georgia-grown agricultural inputs where available, including locally produced
pecans; and
WHEREAS, through retail visitation and interstate shipping operations, Leopold's Ice Cream
serves Georgia residents and visitors from across the United States and abroad, achieving
national recognition and contributing meaningfully to the State of Georgia's tourism
economy; and
WHEREAS, in addition to its economic contributions, Leopold's Ice Cream has maintained

partnerships, educational programming, and community initiatives benefitting Georgia
residents; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the longstanding history, cultural
significance, economic contributions, and community engagement of Leopold's Ice Cream
be appropriately honored.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize and commend Leopold's Ice Cream for over a century

## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the resolution. Quote the text, not the summary.

A Georgia House resolution formally commends Leopold's Ice Cream, the Savannah ice cream maker founded in 1919, for more than a century of business in the state.

### Plain-language summary

This House resolution is a ceremonial statement rather than a change to Georgia law. It recognizes Leopold's Ice Cream, founded in Savannah in 1919 by the Leopold brothers and now run by second-generation owner Stratton Leopold, for continuously operating in Georgia for more than 100 years using original family recipes and small-batch methods.
The resolution notes the company sources Georgia-grown ingredients like pecans, draws visitors through retail and shipping that supports the state's tourism economy, and engages in community and educational initiatives. The House resolves to commend the business and wish it continued success, and directs the Clerk of the House to provide a copy of the resolution to Leopold's Ice Cream for distribution.

### What it does

- Formally recognizes and commends Leopold's Ice Cream for over a century of continuous operation in Savannah, Georgia.
- States the House's appreciation for the company's craftsmanship, use of Georgia-grown ingredients, and contributions to the state's tourism economy.
- Directs the Clerk of the House of Representatives to prepare and distribute a copy of the resolution to the company.
- Does not create, amend, or repeal any Georgia statute or impose any legal obligation.

### Who it affects

This resolution primarily affects Leopold's Ice Cream and its owners, employees, and customers, who receive the House's formal commendation. It has no direct legal effect on other businesses, residents, or state agencies.

### Why it matters

Because this is a commendatory resolution, it carries symbolic rather than legal weight. It does not change taxes, regulations, or funding, but it publicly recognizes a long-running Georgia business and its role in local tourism and community life.

### Key provisions

- The whereas clauses recount Leopold's Ice Cream's founding in 1919 and its continuous operation in Savannah under family ownership.
- The resolved clause commends the company for over a century of operation and extends best wishes for continued success.
- A further resolved clause directs the Clerk of the House to make a copy available for distribution to Leopold's Ice Cream.
