A RESOLUTION

Commending the Archibald Bulloch Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution on its 61st anniversary; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia was founded by General James Edward Oglethorpe, who received a royal charter to establish the 13th American colony in honor of King George II and led 116 pioneers aboard the HMS Anne, landing near present-day Savannah on February 12, 1733; and

WHEREAS, since its founding 292 years ago, Georgia has grown from a settlement of early colonists to a thriving state with an estimated population of 11 million, transitioning from a predominantly rural economy to the commercial, financial, and cultural center of the Southeast; and

WHEREAS, Bulloch County was established in 1796 as Georgia's 21st county, formed from St. Philip's Parish and named in honor of Archibald Bulloch, a delegate to the Continental Congress of 1775 and Georgia's first governor in 1776; and

WHEREAS, the Archibald Bulloch Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was organized on February 29, 1964, with 17 charter members, including Althea DeLoach Adams, Jessie Olliff Averitt, Laura Smith Banks, Elise Baggs Beasley, Josie Helen Mathews Blitch, Helen Snooks Collins, Jeanette Grace Cone, Ida Teressa Bird Foy, Lucille Cannady Hagin, Bertie Mercer Kennedy, Mae Kennedy, Ava Phillips Moore, Gerstle DeLoach Nevil, Marguerite Nunnally Neville, Edna DeLoach Robbins, Patricia Mathewson Robbins, and Mary Groover Demmond Watson; and

WHEREAS, for more than six decades, the Archibald Bulloch Chapter has demonstrated leadership at the local and state levels, contributed to national projects, and diligently worked to uphold the objectives of historic preservation, education, and patriotism; and

WHEREAS, the chapter actively assists and encourages women in researching their genealogy to identify patriots who served in the American Revolutionary War from April 19, 1775, to September 3, 1783, or who provided military service support; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Regent Martha Ann Tanner for the 2024-2026 term, the Archibald Bulloch Chapter continues to promote awareness of Georgia's rich history and the significance of the state's founding; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this distinguished organization be appropriately honored.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Archibald Bulloch Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution upon the grand occasion of both its 61st anniversary and this year's Georgia Day, which the chapter will celebrate on February 13, 2025, with an open luncheon in Statesboro, Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Archibald Bulloch Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
