House Resolution 1521
By: Representative Jackson of the 128th
A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life of Mr. David Oscar Cummings and dedicating a road in his memory; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Mr. David Oscar Cummings was a lifelong resident of Washington County,
Georgia, and graduated from Washington County High School in 1978, where he was the
STAR Student of his graduating class; and
WHEREAS, he worked in the product labs at Imerys for over three decades, where his
professionalism, generosity, and conscientiousness set the standard for his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, an avid cyclist, Mr. Cummings participated in Randonneuring bicycling events
which consist of long distance cycling and he started each year with a century ride of 100
miles on New Year's Day; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Cummings life was tragically cut short on April 30, 2018, when he was
struck from behind by a motorist while cycling on the outskirts of Sandersville; and
WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation
for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he
made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished
Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a road in his memory.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the portion of State Route 540 from Deepstep Road to
Linton Road South in Washington County is dedicated as the David Cummings Memorial
Highway.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and
directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the David Cummings Memorial
Highway.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the
family of Mr. David Oscar Cummings and to the Department of Transportation.
