House Resolution 1555 By: Representatives Erwin of the 32nd, Ballard of the 147th, Rice of the 139th, Cannon of the 172nd, and Persinger of the 119th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Malcolm Mitchell; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Malcolm Mitchell, a native of Valdosta, Georgia, is a former NFL player, Super Bowl champion, author, motivational speaker, literacy advocate, and the founder and CEO of the Share the Magic Foundation; and WHEREAS, an accomplished football player, Malcolm Mitchell was a wide receiver for the University of Georgia before going on to play in the NFL with the New England Patriots; and WHEREAS, while studying at the University of Georgia, he came to the difficult realization that he could not read proficiently; and WHEREAS, inspired by his personal challenges, Malcolm Mitchell founded the Share the Magic Foundation and launched the Read with Malcolm initiative to encourage children facing similar circumstances to embrace reading and discover the transformative power of literacy; and WHEREAS, the Share the Magic Foundation operates in-person and virtually across all 50 states and in more than 17 countries worldwide; and WHEREAS, through his personal journey and the work of the Share the Magic Foundation, Malcolm Mitchell has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to empowering young readers; and WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this exemplary individual be appropriately honored. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Malcolm Mitchell for his unwavering dedication to inspiring readers to overcome challenges and embrace literacy. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Malcolm Mitchell.
