A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life of Mr. Sidney R. Miles and dedicating a road in his memory; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Sidney R. Miles has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Miles began working for the Georgia State Patrol in 1969 as a radio operator at Post 36 Douglas while attending South Georgia College; and

WHEREAS, a second generation trooper, Mr. Miles graduated from the 44th Georgia State Patrol Trooper School in 1974; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Miles's career in law enforcement spanned 30 years and he retired with the rank of Colonel and as Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety; and

WHEREAS, he exhibited extraordinary devotion to duty, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all his duties and was highly regarded by the citizens of his community and state and by local government officials as a person of unquestioned integrity and dedication to the sound principles of law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Miles led an exceptional career of public of service, always putting public safety and the citizens of this state first, and his inspiring commitment to the welfare of others stands as a shining example of the positive effect law enforcement professionals have on the lives and well-being of others; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a road in his memory.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL

ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the portion of State Route 23 from W.R. Colman Road to Brazells Creek in Tattnall County is dedicated as the Sidney R. Miles Memorial Highway. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Sidney R. Miles Memorial Highway.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the family of Mr. Sidney R. Miles and to the Department of Transportation.
