House Resolution 1592

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Deborah VanTrece; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Deborah VanTrece is a revolutionary chef, author, entrepreneur, television personality, and community leader; and

WHEREAS, her journey began in 1994 when she graduated as valedictorian from the Art Institute's culinary program, and quickly rose to prominence, serving as Executive Chef during the Centennial Olympics in Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, in 1998, she opened Edible Art, a restaurant and catering business that became an East Atlanta institution and helped establish the neighborhood as a cultural hub; and

WHEREAS, in 2014, she launched Twisted Soul Cookhouse & Pours, earning critical acclaim from the Cooking Channel's Late Nite Eats and Genius Kitchen's Carnivorous, as well as being named one of the Best New Restaurants in Atlanta by The Georgia Voice; and

WHEREAS, Twisted Soul Cookhouse & Pours, her flagship restaurant, continues to redefine Southern cuisine, earning a place in the 2023 and 2024 Michelin Guide; and

WHEREAS, in 2024, she debuted as the lead chef at the Centurion Lounge at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport; and

WHEREAS, her exemplary work was showcased at the James Beard House and has earned her recognition from Zagat as well as features in The New York Times, Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, and Garden & Gun; and

WHEREAS, as the star of "Global Soul Kitchen," she uses her platform to celebrate the contributions of the African Diaspora to American cuisine as well as mentor young chefs and promote sustainable farming; and

WHEREAS, through her restaurants, television series, and community initiatives, she continues to inspire with her bold vision, redefining what it means to feed the soul; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Deborah VanTrece and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Deborah VanTrece.
