A RESOLUTION
Commending Mrs. Sylvia Williams McGee for her lifelong dedication to education,
community development, leadership cultivation, and civic engagement in Macon-Bibb
County; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Sylvia Williams McGee, a proud native of Macon, Georgia, is a
distinguished retired educator and community engagement leader whose work has
strengthened schools, families, and nonprofit partnerships across the region; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. McGee dedicated 35 years of service to the Bibb County School District,
where she served in multiple leadership roles including School Social Worker, Director of
Student Support Services, Deputy Superintendent, and Interim Superintendent, shaping
student success and strengthening district administration; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of her professional excellence and impact, Mrs. McGee received
numerous honors including Georgia School Social Worker of the Year (1998), the Robert
Hatcher Leadership Award (1996), and the Outstanding Leadership Award from Jack and
Jill of America, Inc. (2000), and the Teacher of Excellence Award at the Golden Eagles
Ceremony has been named in her honor, highlighting her lasting legacy in education; and
WHEREAS, after retirement from public education in 2011, Mrs. McGee continued her
service to children and families through leadership roles such as Project Manager with
READ UNITED at United Way of Central Georgia (2016-2020), advancing early literacy
and supporting volunteer tutoring for students in Kindergarten through third grade; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. McGee's community leadership extends to key civic and nonprofit boards,
including service as Secretary of the Macon-Bibb County Land Bank Authority, Immediate
Past President of The Macon (GA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, Chair of the Ruth
Hartley Mosley Memorial Women's Center, President of the Advisory Board of Directors for
Leadership Macon, and Chair of the Grants Committee for the Community Foundation of
Central Georgia, reflecting her broad influence across sectors; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. McGee's contributions have been recognized beyond education and civic
boards, including receiving the Ruth Hartley Mosley Community Impact Award for her
tireless work in Central Georgia, further honoring her commitment to community
empowerment and collective impact.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body commend Mrs. Sylvia Williams McGee for her extraordinary
leadership, her decades of service in education and community development, and her
enduring commitment to enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of Macon-Bibb County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Mrs.
Sylvia Williams McGee.
