A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending the City of Grayson on the celebration of its 125th Anniversary; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the City of Grayson, located in Gwinnett County, Georgia, stands as a vibrant and growing community that has proudly served its residents and contributed to the progress of our state for more than a century; and
WHEREAS, the area that would become Grayson has deep historical roots, first settled by pioneering families in the 19th century, including the McConnell and Billue families, whose vision and determination helped establish a thriving rural community; and
WHEREAS, the community originally developed around a small settlement known as Trip, where Reverend James Patterson McConnell established a store and the first post office in 1881, laying the foundation for a town that would grow and flourish; and
WHEREAS, on December 6, 1901, the Georgia General Assembly officially incorporated the town and approved the name Grayson, marking the beginning of a proud municipal history defined by civic pride, service, and community spirit; and
WHEREAS, throughout its history, Grayson has maintained a strong sense of community supported by its churches, schools, civic organizations, and residents who have worked together to build a welcoming and thriving city; and
WHEREAS, today the City of Grayson continues to flourish as a dynamic community known for its strong neighborhoods, commitment to family values, and dedication to responsible growth and economic vitality; and
WHEREAS, the city's continued success is guided by the outstanding leadership of Mayor Allison Wilkerson and the members of the Grayson City Council: Bob Foreman, James Gillespie, Rochelle Wright, and Gene Ussery, whose dedication to public service and stewardship has strengthened the city and improved the quality of life for its residents; and
WHEREAS, the year 2026 marks the 125th Anniversary of the City of Grayson, a milestone that provides an opportunity to celebrate the city's rich history, honor the contributions of its residents, and look forward to a bright and prosperous future.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend the City of Grayson on the occasion of its 125th Anniversary and extend sincere congratulations and best wishes for continued prosperity and success in the years ahead.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
