House Resolution 1619 By: Representatives Hugley of the 141st, Buckner of the 137th, Kendrick of the 95th, and Taylor of the 92nd A RESOLUTION Congratulating and commending Carolyn M. Wright for receiving the 2026 Yellow Rose Nikki T. Randall Servant Leadership Award; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, in 1999, Representative Nikki T. Randall became the first African American female elected to the General Assembly from middle Georgia, and over her 17 years of service as a legislator, she held numerous leadership positions, including chair of the Georgia Women's Legislative Caucus; and WHEREAS, every year during Women's History Month, the Georgia Women's Legislative Caucus recognizes outstanding women in Georgia who exemplify the leadership and inspiration embodied by Representative Randall; and WHEREAS, Carolyn M. Wright is a trailblazer in coaching and education who has spent more than 40 years shaping young athletes across basketball, volleyball, and track; and WHEREAS, she spent 32 seasons at Central High School in Phenix City, where she guided the Lady Red Devils to four Final Four appearances at the Alabama High School Athletic Association State Tournament, 12 Sweet Sixteen appearances, nine Elite Eight appearances, and 18 state tournament appearances overall; and WHEREAS, she is a member of the exclusive 600-win basketball club with a total record of 605-387, and her 33-year-long athletic coaching career in the State of Alabama played a major role in helping over 200 athletes attain scholarships to colleges and universities; and WHEREAS, Carolyn M. Wright is one of only five African American female coaches enshrined in the history of the Alabama High School Athletic Sports Hall of Fame, and she was recently inducted into the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame alongside her husband, Bobby, the first couple ever to be inducted on the same day; and WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this extraordinary servant leader be appropriately honored. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate and commend Carolyn M. Wright for receiving the 2026 Yellow Rose Nikki T. Randall Servant Leadership Award and extend best wishes for her continued success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Carolyn M. Wright.
