A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Family and Consumer Sciences; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) is a comprehensive body of research, knowledge, and skills that helps people make informed decisions about their well-being, relationships, and quality of life; and

WHEREAS, with a unique focus on families, work, and their inter-relationships, FCS professionals have long worked to empower individuals and families in Georgia to better manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse global society; and

WHEREAS, national, state, and local policy makers; education administrators; and the public need an understanding of FCS and its direct relevance to the serious societal concerns of today, such as obesity; food safety; financial literacy; the complexities of family life; and the role of parents, caregivers, and other adults in preparing children for school readiness; and

WHEREAS, FCS professionals continue to provide relevant and useful resources to help students prepare for careers in teaching, extension, human services, and a variety of other fields; and

WHEREAS, federal, state, and local decision makers strongly influence the allocation of funds for FCS and the administrative and curricular structure at all levels; and

WHEREAS, the Family, Career, Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and other entities within Family and Consumer Sciences support the development and implementation of initiatives designed to promote uniform name recognition and foster a greater understanding of the important role that the organization plays in preparing families to successfully manage the many and varied challenges of everyday life.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend the affiliates, communities, and entities within Family and Consumer Sciences and support the development and implementation of national, state, and local intervention strategies to sustain Family and Consumer Sciences in the current economic and education environment.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Family and Consumer Sciences.
