A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the leadership of President Donald J. Trump; commending the courage and professionalism of the United States Armed Forces; acknowledging the killing and elimination of the authoritarian dictator Ayatollah Ali Khameini; expressing solidarity with the Iranian people in their pursuit of freedom and self-determination; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the United States Armed Forces continue to demonstrate extraordinary courage, professionalism, and sacrifice in defense of the United States, its allies, and the principles of liberty and security around the world; and
WHEREAS, members of the United States military regularly undertake complex and dangerous missions to counter regimes and organizations that threaten global peace, sponsor terrorism, and destabilize regions critical to international security; and
WHEREAS, President Donald J. Trump, as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, demonstrated decisive leadership in confronting the Iranian regime and authorizing military action to protect American interests, defend allied nations, and promote stability in the Middle East; and
WHEREAS, on February 28, 2026, during a coordinated United States and allied military operation targeting senior leadership and military infrastructure of the Iranian regime, a precision strike destroyed the fortified compound of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, resulting in his death and the elimination of several senior regime officials; and
WHEREAS, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who ruled Iran as Supreme Leader since 1989, presided over a regime responsible for widespread human rights abuses, including the imprisonment, torture, and execution of political dissidents, students, and protesters who sought basic freedoms and democratic reforms; and
WHEREAS, under his leadership, Iranian security forces, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other regime-controlled entities, violently suppressed peaceful demonstrations and movements advocating for civil liberties, resulting in the deaths, imprisonment, and persecution of countless men, women, and young people across Iran; and
WHEREAS, the end of the rule of such a repressive figure represents a moment of historic significance and offers renewed hope that the Iranian people may one day determine their own future free from authoritarian rule; and
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia is home to thousands of active duty service members, veterans, and military families who understand firsthand the sacrifices required to preserve freedom and who proudly serve to defend the liberties that Americans cherish; and
WHEREAS, the Iranian people are distinct from the ruling regime and represent one of the most educated populations in the Middle East, producing generations of engineers, scientists, doctors, mathematicians, and entrepreneurs who have contributed greatly to global innovation and economic development; and
WHEREAS, prior to the Islamic Revolution of 1979, Iran demonstrated significant modernization and development, expanding universities, infrastructure, and economic opportunity for its citizens; and
WHEREAS, despite decades of political repression, many Iranian citizens have continued to express their desire for greater freedom, opportunity, and representative government; and
WHEREAS, the principles of liberty, self-determination, and representative government remain central to the founding ideals of the United States and continue to inspire people around the world.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize the leadership of President Donald J. Trump in confronting threats posed by the Iranian regime and in authorizing decisive action to protect American interests and promote stability in the Middle East. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body commend the bravery and professionalism of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and express profound gratitude for their continued service and sacrifice in defense of freedom and security.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body acknowledge the suffering endured by the Iranian people under decades of authoritarian rule and express hope that the end of such tyranny will open the door for greater freedom, human rights, and self-determination.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body express their support for the people of Iran in their aspiration to live in freedom and to determine their own future under a government that respects human rights, individual liberty, and the rule of law. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
