## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the resolution. Quote the text, not the summary.

A Georgia House resolution would name a stretch of State Route 314 in Clayton County the 'Dr. Anthony Smith Highway' to honor the county's schools superintendent.

### Plain-language summary

This resolution from the Georgia House of Representatives honors Dr. Anthony W. Smith, the superintendent of Clayton County Public Schools, by dedicating a portion of State Route 314 in his name. The dedicated stretch runs from Norman Drive to Fayetteville Road in Clayton County.
The resolution recounts Dr. Smith's career leading one of the state's largest school districts, his role in reviving the Clayton County Public Schools Foundation, which funds scholarships and employee programs, and various community and professional honors he has received. It directs the Georgia Department of Transportation to put up signs marking the highway with his name, and directs the Clerk of the House to send copies of the resolution to Dr. Smith and to the Department of Transportation.

### What it does

- Dedicates the section of State Route 314 between Norman Drive and Fayetteville Road in Clayton County as the 'Dr. Anthony Smith Highway.'
- Directs the Georgia Department of Transportation to erect and maintain signs marking the dedicated highway segment.
- Directs the Clerk of the House of Representatives to distribute copies of the resolution to Dr. Smith and the Department of Transportation.
- Formally recognizes Dr. Anthony W. Smith's career and community service through the resolution's preamble.

### Who it affects

The resolution directly affects Dr. Anthony W. Smith, the Georgia Department of Transportation, which must install and maintain the new signage, and residents and drivers in Clayton County who travel that stretch of State Route 314.

### Why it matters

The change is largely symbolic: a road segment gets a new honorary name and signage, requiring the Department of Transportation to install and maintain signs, but it does not alter traffic rules, funding, or how the road functions for drivers.

### Key provisions

- The resolved clause dedicates the portion of State Route 314 from Norman Drive to Fayetteville Road in Clayton County as the Dr. Anthony Smith Highway.
- A further resolved clause authorizes and directs the Department of Transportation to erect and maintain appropriate signs for the dedication.
- A final clause directs the Clerk of the House to distribute copies of the resolution to Dr. Smith and the Department of Transportation.
