House Resolution 1663 By: Representatives Burnough of the 77th, Bell of the 75th, Flournoy of the 74th, and Scott of the 76th A RESOLUTION Recognizing Dr. Anthony W. Smith and dedicating a road in his honor; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Dr. Anthony W. Smith has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia as evidenced dramatically by his superlative service with Clayton County Public Schools; and WHEREAS, as the Superintendent of Clayton County Public Schools, Dr. Smith leads one of the nation's top 100 largest school districts and the sixth largest school system in the State of Georgia; and WHEREAS, Dr. Smith is highly regarded as a dedicated leader with a transformative and innovative approach to education, designed to improve the educational experience and outcomes of all students; and WHEREAS, Dr. Smith was instrumental in the reestablishment of the Clayton County Public Schools Foundation, which has raised millions of dollars used to support students by providing thousands of scholarships to graduating seniors and sponsoring numerous employee initiatives; and WHEREAS, Dr. Smith further supports his community through civic and social activities including being a member of the Masonic Order at Prince Hall and New Hope Methodist Church as well as participating in the Stockbridge Jonesboro Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; and WHEREAS, his work has been recognized with the 2015 Outstanding Servant in Educational Leadership Award from the Association of Christian Ministers of Clayton County, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce in addition to being named the 2025-2026 Superintendent to Watch by the National School Public Relations Association; and WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a road in his honor. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the portion of State Route 314 from Norman Drive to Fayetteville Road in Clayton County is dedicated as the Dr. Anthony Smith Highway. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Dr. Anthony Smith Highway. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Dr. Anthony W. Smith and to the Department of Transportation.
