WHEREAS, Ms. Huxsie Scott is regarded as one of the greatest jazz and blues artists in the history of Coastal Savannah; and WHEREAS, a native of Savannah, Ms. Scott began her career as a jazz vocalist in 1973, with a powerful voice that will send chills down your spine; and WHEREAS, she has performed as the opening act for such jazz icons as Lionel Hampton and McCoy Tyner; and WHEREAS, Ms. Scott was the original jazz vocalist for the Savannah Jazz Orchestra and is a featured performer in the Jukebox Journey musical at the Savannah Theater; and WHEREAS, her vocal talents extend to gospel and inspirational music, with three of her own gospel recordings and as a staff member in the music ministry of Overcoming By Faith Ministries; and WHEREAS, Ms. Scott has been recognized with numerous honors, including induction into the Savannah Tribune Gospel Hall of Fame, a bronze medal in the 2004 American Traditions competition, and Best Female Contemporary Gospel Artist by the listeners of WSOK/Clear Channel radio; and WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a bridge in her honor. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the bridge on State Route 204 over the CSX railroad (Bridge ID # 0510075) in Chatham County is dedicated as the Huxsie Scott Bridge. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Huxsie Scott Bridge.
