House Resolution 1680

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Paula Whittle; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Paula Whittle, known as "the Mogul," is a serial entrepreneur, philanthropist, mentor, developer, and the founder and director of Atlanta International Fashion Week; and

WHEREAS, 18 years ago, Paula made history as the first Black person and first woman to direct a global fashion week; and

WHEREAS, since then, she has produced and directed over 300 shows, worked with over 500 designers from around the globe, and produced 150 celebrity events; and

WHEREAS, Atlanta International Fashion Week has several community development initiatives and various programs that improve citizen lives, such as Beauty & A Makeover; and

WHEREAS, Atlanta International Fashion Week paves the way for the fashion industry in Atlanta by providing opportunities and propelling the careers of talented individuals, placing Atlanta on a global scale for fashion, highlighting Atlanta's rich heritage and historic buildings, as well as offering youth development and mentorship through the nonprofit, Fashion Apprentice; and

WHEREAS, under the guiding hand of Paula Whittle, the Atlanta International Fashion Week has become one of the largest fashion and entertainment events of the year; and

WHEREAS, Paula's significant organizational and leadership talents, remarkable patience and diplomacy, and keen sense of vision have earned her the respect and admiration of all those who know her; and

WHEREAS, she is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Paula Whittle and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Paula Whittle.
