A RESOLUTION

Recognizing Ms. Mary Davis and dedicating an intersection in her honor; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Mary Davis has long been recognized for her musical talents and unique sound; and

WHEREAS, a native of Savannah, Georgia, Ms. Davis is best known as the original lead vocalist and front woman of the iconic funk and rhythm and blues group, the S.O.S. Band; and

WHEREAS, her smooth and powerful voice helped lead the band to multi-platinum success, selling millions of records world wide; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Davis's voice and direction was a driving force behind the band's hits, "Take Your Time (Do It Right)," "Just Be Good To Me," "Tell Me If You Still Care," "The Finest," and "No One's Gonna Love You"; and

WHEREAS, one of the most sampled and referenced groups in modern soul and hip-hop, the S.O.S. Band's influence extends beyond the 1970s and 1980s to future generations of music lovers; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an intersection in her honor.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL

ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the intersection of State Route 204 and Tibet Avenue in Chatham County is dedicated as the Mary Davis "S.O.S. Band" Intersection. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Mary Davis "S.O.S. Band" Intersection.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Ms. Mary Davis and to the Department of Transportation.
