House Resolution 1783

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Mrs. Keila Harvey; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Keila Harvey is a visionary dance educator with over 38 years of experience in multiple dance disciplines as well as more than 25 years of teaching and mentoring students in the art of dance; and

WHEREAS, in 2005, she founded the Gift of Dance Studio, fulfilling her lifelong dream of opening her own dance school; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her work as an instructor and studio director, Mrs. Harvey served as the leader of 7th Day Evangelism Dance Ministry with the Fishers of Men Outreach Ministry at New Birth Cathedral in Lithonia, Georgia; taught public school for nine years in Clayton County; and was the Co-Director of the Mt. Zion High School Dance Academy and Mt. Zion Magnet High School in Jonesboro; and

WHEREAS, she performed professionally as a ballerina across the country with the Atlanta Festival Ballet and trained at several prestigious institutions, including Boston Ballet Center for Dance Education, the Atlanta Ballet, Ball Ethnic Academy for Dance Education, Southern Methodist University, and the Governor's Honors Program; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Harvey has also appeared as a featured dancer on the singing competition show Sunday's Best, as well as was on the television series Lovecraft County and Genius: Aretha; and

WHEREAS, along with her staff and students at the Gift of Dance Studio, Mrs. Harvey was featured on the televison programs Made and Bring It!; and

WHEREAS, under her tutelage, her trainees have achieved many honors, including Scream Tour (concert) performers, Fort Valley State University Dancing Doll Divas and Dancing Diva Doll Captain, Valdosta State University Dance major graduates, cruise ship dancers, Alvin Ailey camp participants, Dance Theater of Harlem camp participants, back up dancers for various artists and videos, regional and national dance competition winners, Governor's Honors Program nominees and attendees, and impressive accomplishments on the hit TV show So You Think You Can Dance; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that Mrs. Keila Harvey be appropriately honored for her outstanding dedication to teaching, inspiring, and mentoring young dancers.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Mrs. Keila Harvey and extend their sincere best wishes for her continued health, happiness, and success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Mrs. Keila Harvey.
