House Resolution 1801 By: Representative Scott of the 76th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Lewis Givens Sr.; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, it is appropriate and fitting to recognize the lives of those individuals whose faith, dedication to family, and service to community have left a lasting legacy for generations to follow; and WHEREAS, Lewis Givens Sr. was born on September 17, 1899, in Tallahassee, Florida, the beloved son of the late Robert Givens and Frances Jenkins-Givens; and WHEREAS, Lewis Givens Sr. lived a life marked by devotion to family, community, and faith, becoming a pillar of strength and guidance to those who knew and loved him; and WHEREAS, he was united in holy matrimony to the late Malinda Atkins-Givens in January 1921, and through this blessed union, they raised eight children—five daughters and three sons—building a legacy of love, resilience, and family unity; and WHEREAS, Lewis Givens Sr. accepted Christ as his Savior in July of 1982 and became a devoted member of St. Marks Primitive Baptist Church, where he worshiped faithfully under the leadership of Reverend Matthew Balkman; and WHEREAS, he was a respected member of the Masonic Brothers of Cherry Hill 549, AFRO American Lodge #14, and the University Pallbearers Lodge, reflecting his commitment to brotherhood, service, and community fellowship; and WHEREAS, throughout his long life, he was blessed with a large and loving family, and he leaves behind a legacy through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, whose lives continue to be shaped by his example and wisdom; and WHEREAS, Lewis Givens Sr. departed this life on Thursday, January 14, 1999, at 9:10 PM, leaving a profound sense of loss to his family, church, and community as well as many cherished memories and a legacy of faith and perseverance; and WHEREAS, his life serves as a powerful reminder that faith, family devotion, and community service are the foundations upon which strong generations are built. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Lewis Givens Sr. and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of Lewis Givens Sr.
