A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and memory of Mamie G. Jones; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to recognize and celebrate the life of citizens whose
dedication to faith, family, service, and community has left a lasting impact on all who knew
them; and
WHEREAS, Mamie G. Jones was born on August 2, 1940, in Gadsden County, Florida, to
Goldie and John Spencer Harrison, and from an early age, she was nurtured in a Christian
home grounded in faith, compassion, and service to others; and
WHEREAS, she joined Hopewell A.M.E. Church, where she faithfully served throughout
her life and demonstrated unwavering commitment to her church and community; and
WHEREAS, during her years of service at Hopewell A.M.E. Church, Mamie G. Jones
exemplified leadership and devotion, serving as a member of the Trustee Board, President
of the Graveyard Committee, Secretary of the Quincy District Lay Organization, Secretary
of the Florida Conference of Lay Organizations, and Director of Lay Activities of the Quincy
District; and
WHEREAS, Mamie G. Jones was a proud graduate of Carter-Parramore High School in
Quincy, Florida, Class of 1959, and she carried forward the values of education,
perseverance, and service throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, she dedicated many years of professional service to Florida A&M University,
working on the clerical and housing staff, where she assisted and supported thousands of
students, demonstrating kindness, professionalism, and a genuine care for others; and
WHEREAS, she was a woman known for her generosity, warmth, and unwavering
commitment to others, always putting the needs of family, friends, and community before
her own and leaving a lasting impression on everyone she encountered; and
WHEREAS, Mamie G. Jones departed this life on July 25, 1992, after a lengthy illness,
leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that continues to inspire those who knew
and loved her; and
WHEREAS, she leaves to cherish her memory two loving daughters, Sandra G. Scott of
Savannah, Georgia, and Evelyn G. Faison of Havana, Florida; grandsons, Dexter X. Scott,
Savannah, and Quantarious "Chucky" Faison; son-in-law, Edward J. Scott; sisters, Mattie
Grice, Letha Harrison, and Bessie Manuel; brother-in-law, Lawrence Carl Grice; and a host
of cousins, godchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends whose lives were blessed by her
presence; and
WHEREAS, the life of Mamie G. Jones stands as a shining example of faith, devotion, and
servant leadership, and her memory remains a source of strength and inspiration to her family
and community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mamie G. Jones and
express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the
family of Mamie G. Jones.
