A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Atlanta Gas Light on its 170th anniversary; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, on February 16, 2026, Atlanta Gas Light celebrated 170 years of operation,
remaining the oldest corporation in the City of Atlanta and one of the oldest corporations in
the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, Atlanta Gas Light lit the first gas lamps in Atlanta on December 25, 1855, and
was officially incorporated by the Georgia General Assembly on February 16, 1856; and
WHEREAS, today, Atlanta Gas Light's skilled and dedicated workforce serves as trusted
energy partners to the approximately 1.8 million customers who rely on them every day; and
WHEREAS, Atlanta Gas Light plays a pivotal role in Georgia's growing economy, investing
as much as $50 million annually in its natural gas infrastructure, helping attract new
businesses, create jobs, improve efficiency, and strengthen local economies across Georgia;
and
WHEREAS, Atlanta Gas Light's sustained investment has helped position Georgia among
the nation's top states for business and continues to enable growth in manufacturing,
logistics, and more; and
WHEREAS, Atlanta Gas Light's innovation continues to deliver comfort for customers while
new operational efficiencies enhance customer value; and
WHEREAS, Atlanta Gas Light employees contribute thousands of volunteer hours annually
to the nonprofits serving the most locally relevant needs, strengthening neighborhoods, and
supporting people across Geogia; and
WHEREAS, Atlanta Gas Light supports communities throughout Georgia and, together with
its foundation, has invested more than $150 million in community initiatives across the state
since its founding; and
WHEREAS, in 2025, Atlanta Gas Light and its foundation provided more than $2.5 million
in critical assistance to local nonprofit and community organizations, advancing economic
mobility, environmental stewardship, and community resilience thoughtout Georgia as well
as helping Georgians experiencing hardship through energy-bill relief programs and United
Way's 211 services; and
WHEREAS, Atlanta Gas Light employees contibuted more than 4,000 community service
hours in 2025, supporting economic mobility, environmental stewardship, and community
enrichment efforts across Georgia.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize and commend Atlanta Gas Light upon the grand
occasion of its 170th anniversary and celebrate its commitment to being "a citizen wherever
we serve."
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to
Atlanta Gas Light.
