A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Representative Lynn Smith; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Representative Lynn Smith has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state as evidenced dramatically by her superlative service with the Georgia House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, Representative Smith was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1996; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure, Representative Smith has championed landmark legislation, including the Water Stewardship Act, the creation of the Regional Water Plans, and revisions to the Brownfield Act; and
WHEREAS, she currently serves as chairman for the House Natural Resources and Environment Committee, and champions sound environmental policies that protect the environment as well as the economy of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, she also serves on the Appropriations, Rules, Reapportionment, Small Business Development, Economic Development and Tourism, and Creative Arts and Entertainment Committees as well as the Special Committee on Resource Management; and
WHEREAS, in addition to state committees, Representative Smith served as chair of the Southern Legislative conference Energy and Environment Committee, is the Vice Chairman of the Southern States Energy Board, and is a member of the National Conference of State Legislators; and
WHEREAS, Representative Smith has served with honor and distinction with the Georgia House of Representatives, and her vision and unyielding commitment to the citizens of the State of Georgia will be sorely missed upon the occasion of her retirement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Representative Lynn Smith for her efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Representative Lynn Smith.
