A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Mariah HuQ; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Mariah HuQ is a nationally recognized media leader, entrepreneur, and philanthropist whose work reflects a deep commitment to community service, cultural integrity, and civic responsibility; and
WHEREAS, raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Mariah developed an early passion for storytelling, leading her to pursue studies in communications at Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga; and
WHEREAS, she began her career in broadcast journalism as a video news editor and associate producer at WRCB-TV, Chattanooga's NBC affiliate; and
WHEREAS, building on her experience in media, Mariah later transitioned into pharmaceutical and medical device sales while raising her family with her husband, Dr. Aydin HuQ; and
WHEREAS, together, they are the proud parents of two children who embody their shared commitment to education and service; and
WHEREAS, Mariah is widely recognized as the creator, co-star, and executive producer of Bravo TV's Married to Medicine; and
WHEREAS, with the release of Married to Medicine in 2013, she became the first African American woman to develop an original franchise for Bravo TV; and
WHEREAS, the series premiered as Bravo's highest-rated non-spinoff freshman show, attracting more than 2.7 million viewers in its debut season, and now in its 12th season, the series has reached over 27 million viewers and continues to highlight the lives of professional women and families within the medical community; and
WHEREAS, Mariah's perseverance in conceptualizing, casting, and independently pitching the series exemplifies her leadership, vision, and commitment to authentic storytelling; and
WHEREAS, Mariah is the founder of Reality Reprogrammed, a forward-thinking media initiative focused on responsible storytelling, creator ownership, cultural accountability, and public trust; and
WHEREAS, she is also the founder of Sleek Media Studios, a creative hub located in downtown McDonough, Georgia, designed to support filmmakers, producers, content creators, and entrepreneurs through access to professional resources, training, and community collaboration; and
WHEREAS, Mariah is profoundly dedicated to philanthropy and civic engagement; she has been honored with the Ruby Hurley Humanitarian of the Year Award, as well as received numerous recognitions for her service, including an Outstanding Service Award from the State of Tennessee, the Chattanooga Humanitarian Award, and an official Proclamation recognizing Mariah HuQ Day; and
WHEREAS, her philanthropic work supports educational access, humanitarian relief, and community development both domestically and internationally through organizations such as the Solaiman Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Mariah now calls Georgia her home, where she continues her commitment to service by supporting families, students, and community-based organizations throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, her efforts include providing scholarships, educational resources, medical supplies, and essential goods to underserved populations, as well as mentoring and workforce-development initiatives that empower aspiring creators and entrepreneurs; and
WHEREAS, her work reflects a long-term investment in strengthening Georgia's cultural, economic, and creative landscape; and
WHEREAS, Mariah's family actively participates in initiatives that reinforce values of service and global citizenship through outreach efforts in Georgia, Tennessee, and abroad, including support for the Kebene Children's Home in Mombasa, Kenya; and
WHEREAS, Mariah HuQ exemplifies the principles of civic leadership, service, and integrity; she seamlessly integrates professional excellence, community engagement, and family values, serving as an inspiration to others while making a meaningful and lasting impact on the communities she serves; and
WHEREAS, Mariah's contributions continue to uplift voices, strengthen institutions, and advance a vision of leadership grounded in responsibility, inclusion, and service.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Mariah HuQ for her invaluable contributions to the communities she has served.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Mariah HuQ.
