House Resolution 1888 By: Representatives Prince of the 132nd, Newton of the 127th, Howard of the 129th, and Myles of the 126th A RESOLUTION Recognizing Mr. Don A. Grantham and dedicating an interchange in his honor; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Mr. Don A. Grantham has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he plays in leadership in this state and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and WHEREAS, a Georgia native, Mr. Grantham was raised in Augusta and graduated from the Academy of Richmond County before attending Augusta College and ultimately earning a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Georgia; and WHEREAS, Mr. Grantham and his wife Mrs. Carol Willcox Grantham have built their lives and raised their family, including their daughter Zoe Grantham Gawrych and son Don A. "Dag" Grantham Jr., in their hometown of Augusta, a family that is now blessed with four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, with an abiding devotion to their faith, he and his wife are active members of Trinity on the Hill Global Methodist Church and remain committed to the betterment of not only their hometown and community but also their state and nation; and WHEREAS, Mr. Grantham launched his career in the lumber sector at the Georgia Pacific Corporation and ultimately cofounded the Forest Sales Corporation in 1968, holding the role of President and CEO for 48 years until 2018; and WHEREAS, an engaged community leader, Mr. Grantham's extensive volunteer service includes his past presidencies of the Exchange Club of Augusta, Augusta Country Club, and Augusta Gold Association and his service with the Boy Scouts of America Advisory Board of Augusta, Metro Augusta Chamber of Commerce, YWCA Board of Directors, Augusta Museum of History Board of Directors, Augusta Arts Council, University Health Foundation Board, and Medical College of Georgia Foundation at Augusta University; and WHEREAS, comprising more than a half century of gubernatorial appointments and electoral successes, his public service roles include multiple terms on the Georgia Ports Authority Board as well as the Richmond County Commission, the Richmond County Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals, and election to multiple terms on the State Transportation Board representing the 12th Congressional district; and WHEREAS, Mr. Grantham presently holds the unique distinction of having served as the Chairman of the Georgia Ports Authority Board and subsequently the State Transportation Board leading initiatives to make our state's port a national and international leader as well as significantly advancing regional and state investment in transportation through the implementation of the Transportation Investment Act of 2010 and the Transportation Funding Act of 2015; and WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized by dedicating an interchange in his honor. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the interchange of Interstate 20 and Interstate 520 in Augusta-Richmond County is dedicated as the Chairman Don A. Grantham Interchange. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Chairman Don A. Grantham Interchange. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Mr. Don A. Grantham and the Department of Transportation.
