A RESOLUTION
Recognizing September 2026 as Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease is a progressive and irreversible brain disorder and the most
common form of dementia, affecting memory, thinking, behavior, and the ability to carry out
daily activities; and
WHEREAS, it is estimated that approximately 10-12 percent of adults aged 65 and older are
living with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia, impacting a significant number
of residents and families within Clayton County; and
WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease not only affects individuals diagnosed but also places
emotional, physical, and financial demands on caregivers, families, and the broader
community; and
WHEREAS, Clayton County recognizes the importance of fostering a dementia-friendly
community that promotes awareness, understanding, inclusion, and accessibility for
individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia; and
WHEREAS, the Dementia-Friendly Clayton Initiative seeks to create supportive
environments across all sectors—including healthcare, transportation, public safety,
businesses, and community organizations—ensuring that individuals living with dementia
can remain engaged, respected, and supported in their daily lives; and
WHEREAS, Clayton County Senior Services, in collaboration with community partners,
continues to lead efforts in education, caregiver support, and the development of programs
that enhance quality of life and promote independence for older adults; and
WHEREAS, Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month provides an opportunity to educate the
public, reduce stigma, encourage early detection, and recognize the dedication of caregivers,
professionals, and advocates who support those affected.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize September 2026 as Alzheimer's Disease Awareness
Month.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the
public and the press.
