A RESOLUTION
Commending Dr. Dan A. Sims; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Dr. Dan A. Sims currently serves as Superintendent of the Bibb County School
District, where he draws upon his more than 30 years of dedicated service to public education
in Georgia to advance student engagement, strengthen community partnerships, and promote
academic growth; and
WHEREAS, he began his educational career in the Fulton County School System, and after
over two decades of school-level and district-level leadership, he joined the Atlanta Public
School System as Associate Superintendent of Schools; and
WHEREAS, during his six-year-long tenure, he supported principals, guided strategic
planning efforts, participated in district-level budgeting, aligned departments and resources
to improve school operations, and oversaw key organizational divisions; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Sims has further contributed to educational improvement through consulting
roles with the Barbados Ministry of Education, Birmingham City Schools, Yazoo City
Schools, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, and the Tucson Unified School District; and
WHEREAS, he has shown equal commitment to his community through leadership positions
in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., where he was named National Brother of the Year, and
through service on the boards of the Principals Center at Georgia State University, the
Reigning Hope Foundation, the Macon Affordable Housing Commission, the National Youth
Book Conference, and the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Sims has been recognized with numerous honors for his educational
leadership and community service, including Teacher of the Year and Principal of the Year
awards, humanitarian recognitions from multiple civic organizations, the Fulbright Memorial
Fund Scholar distinction, and the W.E.B. DuBois Award for Excellence in Education; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this distinguished individual be
appropriately honored for his many remarkable contributions on behalf of the youth of this
state.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body commend Dr. Dan A. Sims for his decades effective, efficient, and
dedicated educational service as well as extended the most sincere best wishes for continued
success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr.
Dan A. Sims.
