## Summaries written by Georgia Commons

The following was written by claude-sonnet-5 from the text above and is not part of the resolution. Quote the text, not the summary.

A Georgia House resolution would honor the late Dan Magill, a longtime University of Georgia tennis coach and sports figure, by naming an Athens-Clarke County intersection after him.

### Plain-language summary

This resolution recognizes Dan Magill, a University of Georgia athletics figure who died in 2014, for his decades of service to the university, including 34 years as head tennis coach and his role in building the school's tennis complex and reputation.
The resolution directs that the intersection of State Route 15AL (S. Milledge Avenue) and Woodlawn Avenue in Athens-Clarke County be named the Dan Magill Memorial Intersection. It also directs the Georgia Department of Transportation to put up and maintain signs marking the dedication, and directs the Clerk of the House to send copies of the resolution to Magill's family and to the Department of Transportation.

### What it does

- Dedicates the intersection of State Route 15AL (S. Milledge Avenue) and Woodlawn Avenue in Athens-Clarke County as the Dan Magill Memorial Intersection.
- Directs the Georgia Department of Transportation to erect and maintain signs marking the dedicated intersection.
- Directs the Clerk of the House of Representatives to distribute copies of the resolution to Magill's family and the Department of Transportation.

### Who it affects

This mainly affects the Georgia Department of Transportation, which must install and maintain signage, and residents and visitors to Athens-Clarke County who will see the newly named intersection. It also formally recognizes Dan Magill's family.

### Why it matters

The resolution has no regulatory or financial effect beyond signage costs. Its main practical impact is a permanent public marker in Athens-Clarke County honoring Dan Magill's long association with University of Georgia athletics, particularly the tennis program he led for 34 years.

### Key provisions

- The resolved clause names the intersection of State Route 15AL (S. Milledge Avenue) and Woodlawn Avenue in Athens-Clarke County as the Dan Magill Memorial Intersection.
- A further resolved clause authorizes and directs the Department of Transportation to erect and maintain appropriate signs for the dedication.
- A final clause directs the Clerk of the House to distribute copies of the resolution to Magill's family and the Department of Transportation.
