A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending former President Barack Obama on the opening of the Obama Presidential Center; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States, has dedicated his life to public service, civic engagement, and the advancement of democratic ideals both within this nation and across the globe; and

WHEREAS, born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii, President Obama rose from humble beginnings to become a historic and transformational leader, graduating from Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he served as the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review; and

WHEREAS, prior to his presidency, he served as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago, a civil rights attorney, a constitutional law professor, and a member of the Illinois State Senate and the United States Senate; and

WHEREAS, during his presidency from 2009 to 2017, President Obama led the nation through one of the most challenging economic recoveries in modern history, expanded access to healthcare through the Affordable Care Act, strengthened international alliances, and championed equity, inclusion, and opportunity for all Americans; and

WHEREAS, President Obama made history as the first African American president of the United States, inspiring millions across generations and around the world to believe in the power of hope, unity, and civic responsibility; and

WHEREAS, the opening of the Obama Presidential Center marks a significant and historic milestone, serving not only as a presidential library but also as a dynamic campus designed to inspire leadership, community engagement, and social impact for generations to come; and

WHEREAS, located in Jackson Park on the South Side of Chicago, the Obama Presidential Center will include a museum, library, public gathering spaces, and programming initiatives focused on developing the next generation of leaders and change-makers; and

WHEREAS, through the work of the Obama Foundation, the center will foster global citizenship, civic innovation, and youth leadership, continuing President Obama's enduring commitment to empowering individuals and strengthening communities.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend former President Barack Obama upon the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center as well as extend best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
