A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and honoring the cultural legacy and contributions of Field Mob; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS, Shawn Jay and Smoke, collectively known as Field Mob, are proud natives of
Albany, Georgia, who have emerged as pioneering voices representing South Georgia and
rural Georgia communities on a national stage; and
WHEREAS, during a time when few artists from rural South Georgia had access to
mainstream platforms, Field Mob broke barriers and created a pathway for future generations
of artists from underserved and overlooked communities across South Georgia; and
WHEREAS, through their music, including culturally impactful works such as "Georgia"
featuring Ludacris, Field Mob uplifted the identity, struggles, and resilience of people
throughout rural South Georgia, providing authentic representation of Southern life, culture,
and lived experience; and
WHEREAS, their success in the late 1990s and early 2000s brought national recognition not
only to Albany but also to rural Georgia communities collectively, establishing them as
cultural ambassadors for regions often excluded from mainstream visibility; and
WHEREAS, it is important to honor living legends and cultural contributors while they are
still able to receive their flowers, particularly as Shawn Jay courageously faces a serious
health battle with stage four cancer; and
WHEREAS, it is both fitting and necessary to acknowledge the enduring impact, artistic
excellence, and cultural legacy of Field Mob, whose voices helped shape the sound and story
of Georgia as a whole.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize and honor the lasting contributions of Shawn Jay and
Smoke as well as their roles as pioneers, cultural leaders, and representatives of South
Georgia and rural Georgia communities.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Shawn
Jay and Smoke.
