A RESOLUTION
Recognizing June 14, 2026, as Race Amity Day; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Race Amity Day is observed annually on the second Sunday in June, which will
occur on June 14, 2026, and serves as a time to promote racial harmony, mutual respect, and
genuine friendship among all people; and
WHEREAS, the concept of "amity," meaning friendship and goodwill, calls our communities
to move beyond mere tolerance and toward meaningful relationships that foster unity,
cooperation, and shared purpose; and
WHEREAS, Race Amity Day has its historical roots in early 20th-century race amity
conventions and has been advanced in modern times by efforts such as those of the Bahá'í
National Spiritual Assembly to address racism and promote the oneness of humanity; and
WHEREAS, the observance of this day encourages individuals, organizations, and
communities to engage in activities that celebrate diversity through music, art, dialogue,
education, and service, strengthening the social fabric of our state and nation; and
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia is home to a rich and diverse population whose cultures,
histories, and contributions have shaped the strength and resilience of our communities; and
WHEREAS, fostering racial harmony and understanding is essential to achieving social
justice, economic opportunity, and a unified future for all Georgians; and
WHEREAS, in times of division and uncertainty, Race Amity Day serves as a powerful
reminder that unity, compassion, and friendship across racial and cultural lines are
foundational to a thriving and inclusive society.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize June 14, 2026, as Race Amity Day.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the
public and the press.
