A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and legacy of Mother Bernice Brim Powe; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Mother Bernice Brim Powe was a devoted Christian woman and loving mother,
grandmother, mentor, and friend whose life was a testament to faith, service, and unwavering
dedication to God; and
WHEREAS, she was born on May 31, 1934, in Tallahassee, Florida, to the late Nazareth and
Annie L. Brim, and was affectionately known as "Baby" by her family and loved ones; and
WHEREAS, at a young age, Mother Powe accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized
in the Baptist faith, later receiving the Holy Ghost and answering her divine call to ministry
while living in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, she was licensed as an Evangelist in 1966 through the Church of God in Christ
and went on to serve faithfully in ministry, including as a Servicemen's Fellowship leader in
Germany, touching countless lives through her preaching, teaching, and spiritual guidance;
and
WHEREAS, in 2009, she was ordained as an Elder and continued to serve with distinction,
later being confirmed and consecrated as a Prophetess of the Lord on May 20, 2017, at Truth
Gatherers Dream Center Church under the leadership of Pastor Joseph Davis Jr.; and
WHEREAS, throughout her life, she was actively involved in numerous ministries, including
University COGIC, Prayer Temple COGIC, Fresh Fire Ministries, and Abundant Life and
Restoration Ministries, where her love for God and her community was evident in all she did;
and
WHEREAS, Mother Powe dedicated her life to mentoring, coaching, and uplifting others
through prayer, prophetic counsel, and faithful service, leaving a profound and lasting impact
on women, families, and communities in need of healing and hope; and
WHEREAS, she was a proud graduate of Leesville High School, earned an associate's degree
in business from Sabine Valley Technical School, and furthered her education at
Northwestern State University, later retiring from the Leon County School System after a
dedicated career of service; and
WHEREAS, she was a loving mother to her daughter, Cynthia "Cindy"; a cherished
mother-in-law; and a devoted grandmother to Joshua and Caleb, who were the joy of her life;
and
WHEREAS, her favorite scripture, Psalm 34, guided her life, and her testimony and faith
inspired all who knew her, as she often declared, "God saved me when she thought she was
already saved"; and
WHEREAS, on September 2, 2024, at the age of 90, Mother Bernice Brim Powe entered into
eternal rest, leaving behind a powerful legacy of faith, service, and love that will continue
to inspire generations to come.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body honor the remarkable life and legacy of Mother Bernice Brim
Powe and extend their deepest sympathy to her family and all who were blessed to know her.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the
family of Mother Bernice Brim Powe.
