House Resolution 2029

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing March 31, 2026, as Community-Based Doula Day; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, community-based doulas provide continuous support to mothers during labor and delivery, helping them cope with the physical and mental demands of giving birth; and

WHEREAS, by drawing on their specialized training and lived experience to guide birthing persons through labor and birth, community-based doulas provide emotional support and physical comfort that enhance the childbirth experience for the entire family; and

WHEREAS, community-based doulas share at least one commonality with the birthing person, which improves outcomes for underserved communities; and

WHEREAS, community-based doulas work with medical staff, including doctors, midwives, and nurses, to provide informational support to all birthing people they serve and help with their transition to parenthood; and

WHEREAS, community-based doulas remove barriers by meeting families prenatally and postpartum in the home; and

WHEREAS, community-based doulas across the State of Georgia address maternal health disparities, help create positive childbirth experiences, and work towards improved birth and infant health outcomes.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize March 31, 2026, as Community-Based Doula Day. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
