House Resolution 2035

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Gurmit Kaur; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Gurmit Kaur has demonstrated exceptional dedication to higher education and the advancement of legal studies, serving as an adjunct faculty member at Purdue University Global since 2004; and

WHEREAS, since 2007, she has served with distinction as an academic department chair, overseeing multiple legal studies programs and contributing to the academic success of countless students pursuing careers in law and public service; and

WHEREAS, Gurmit Kaur has been a leader in academic innovation, working on the development of modularized curriculum, course revisions, and competency-based programs that expand access to high-quality, flexible education for diverse student populations; and

WHEREAS, her global perspective in education is reflected in her service as Academic Dean at Kaplan Higher Education, Singapore, from 2009 to 2011, where she played a key role in internationalizing and globalizing curriculum across the Asia Pacific region; and

WHEREAS, prior to her academic leadership, she practiced law for 10 years and contributed to legal education internationally by teaching law courses for the University of London External Law Program and at the Malaysia Bar Final examinations; and

WHEREAS, Gurmit Kaur's academic achievements include a Bachelor of Laws from the University of London, as well as degrees from the University of Malaya, and her scholarly contributions include publications in the area of civil procedure; and

WHEREAS, through her leadership, innovation, and commitment to student success, Gurmit Kaur has made a lasting and meaningful impact on legal education and on the lives of students around the world.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Gurmit Kaur for her outstanding contributions to higher education and legal studies and extend best wishes for her continued success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr. Gurmit Kaur.
