A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Mrs. Robbie Ruth Gandy Williams for her lifelong dedication to faith, family, community, and service; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Robbie Ruth Gandy Williams was born on December 26, 1939, in Atmore, Alabama, to the late Greeley and Maggie Gandy as the seventh of nine children; and
WHEREAS, at the age of 21, in 1959, she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, with her husband, the late Prince Williams Sr., and their two young sons while expecting the birth of their daughter, demonstrating strength, faith, and commitment to building a better life for her family; and
WHEREAS, in 1969, she established her permanent residence in the Decatur area, where she has faithfully lived for 57 years, raising a loving family that includes three sons, one daughter, 11 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren, leaving a legacy of love, unity, and generational impact; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church in Atmore, Alabama; and after moving to Atlanta, she became a devoted and active member of The Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Hubert Floyd Shepherd, where she served faithfully for many years until 2001; and
WHEREAS, for the past 25 years, she has continued her spiritual journey as a committed member of The Way Christian Ministries in Decatur, Georgia, under the leadership of Dr. Prince Williams Jr., her son, demonstrating her enduring faith and commitment to ministry; and
WHEREAS, throughout her life, Mrs. Williams has exemplified a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, holding positions with Our Way Machine Shop, Northern Telecom Company, and Mary Kay Cosmetics Inc., where she served as a Sales Director, in addition to operating a personal home daycare; and
WHEREAS, she has continued her service to the community as a dedicated Crossing Guard with the DeKalb County School District for the past 15 years, ensuring the safety and well-being of countless children; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams is deeply committed to health and wellness, having been an active member of the East Lake YMCA for 26 years, where she faithfully exercises with fellow seniors multiple days each week; and
WHEREAS, she finds great joy in tending to her yard and garden, nurturing not only flowers but also relationships with family and friends, reflecting her caring spirit and love for life; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams is widely admired for her unwavering devotion to her community, her church, her family, and her profession, and she stands as a shining example of strength, grace, and service for generations to come.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Mrs. Robbie Ruth Gandy Williams for her remarkable life of service, her enduring faith, and her invaluable contributions to the community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Mrs. Robbie Ruth Gandy Williams.
