WHEREAS, Rick and Sundai Stevenson are compassionate people who are motivated by faith, grounded in love for people, and serve with their whole hearts; and WHEREAS, Rick's strength as a communicator, collaborator, and bridge-builder was evident as he helped lead the 2017 Education SPLOST effort, speaking with clarity in the face of complexity, easing tensions, and offering hope—he serves on multiple boards, reflecting a lifetime of commitment to community growth, youth mentorship, and cultural enrichment; and WHEREAS, Sundai has served on the Rome City Commission and became the city's first Black female mayor, and her work with the MLK Commission, the Chamber of Commerce, local nonprofits, and her church highlights a life of service; and WHEREAS, together, Rick and Sundai form a team whose impact reaches far beyond titles or positions, and their influence can be felt in the lives of the families they have supported and the collaborations they have built; and WHEREAS, Rick is currently serving on the AdventHealth Redmond Board of Trustees, Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Georgia Board, One Community United Executive Board, and Rome International Film Festival Board; and WHEREAS, Sundai is currently serving on the Floyd County Development Authority Board, Open Door Home Board, Rome Symphony Board, Blister for My Sister Advisory Board, and as the M. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize Rick and Sundai Stevenson for their outstanding dedication to the community, commend them as recipients of the 2026 Heart of Community Board of Governors Award, and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued success.
