A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life and memory of William Edward "Ed" Davis; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of William Edward "Ed" Davis on March 23, 2026; and

WHEREAS, William Edward "Ed" Davis was born in Alberta, Virginia, a beloved son of Richard M. Davis Sr. and Martha "Beth" Page Davis; and

WHEREAS, he served the youth of this state as a band director and fine arts department chair at multiple schools, most notably Austin Road Middle School in Henry County, where under his leadership, bands earned 67 consecutive superior ratings at Georgia Music Educators Association events; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, he encouraged generations of students to grow as musicians and individuals, becoming a mentor and guide whose influence extended far beyond the classroom; and

WHEREAS, he further served as president of the Georgia Music Educators Association, held leadership roles within the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity and the National Band Association, and appeared more than 200 times as a guest conductor and adjudicator across multiple states; and

WHEREAS, he received numerous honors for his contributions to music education, including the National Band Association Citation of Excellence, the Sudler Cup from the John Philip Sousa Foundation, the Sousa Foundation Legion of Honor, and more; and

WHEREAS, William Edward "Ed" Davis co-founded ENCORE! Music Camps, the Youth Concert Band of Atlanta, and TARA Winds, creating opportunities for musicians of all ages to develop their talents; and

WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to his wife, Marcia, and was blessed with two remarkable children, Allison and Jonathan; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, William Edward "Ed" Davis will long be remembered for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of William Edward "Ed" Davis and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of William Edward "Ed" Davis.
