House Resolution 2119 By: Representative Baker of the 64th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Vicki Pilgrim for her outstanding service and contributions to the Georgia Golden Olympics and the National Senior Games Association; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Vicki Pilgrim has devoted more than four decades of distinguished service to the promotion of health, wellness, and active aging through her leadership in the Georgia Golden Olympics and her work with the National Senior Games Association; and WHEREAS, she has served the Georgia Golden Games since its inception in 1980, playing a foundational role in building and sustaining a program that has positively impacted thousands of older adults across the state; and WHEREAS, for over 40 years, she has been instrumental in expanding opportunities for older adults across Georgia to remain active, engaged, and connected through athletic competition and community participation; and WHEREAS, she has provided national leadership through her service on the National Senior Games Association Board of Directors from 1996 through 2003 and again from 2016 through 2021, including serving as Secretary from 1999 through 2002 and as Southeast Regional Coordinator; and WHEREAS, in 2017, during the 30th anniversary of the National Senior Games Association, she was selected as one of the "30 Champions of the Games," an honor recognizing individuals who made outstanding contributions to the creation, promotion, and growth of the Senior Games Movement; and WHEREAS, her professional career spanned 35 years in public health, including her role as Section Director for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion with the Georgia Department of Public Health, where she advanced initiatives that improved the health and well-being of citizens across this state; and WHEREAS, her dedication to parks, recreation, and community service is further demonstrated through her extensive involvement with the Georgia Recreation and Park Association, where she has served on the Board of Directors and as Chair of both the Therapeutic Recreation Section and the Senior Adult Section; and WHEREAS, her exemplary service has been recognized with numerous honors, including the National Senior Games Association Harris Frank Distinguished Service Award (2015), multiple Georgia Recreation and Park Association awards—including Therapeutic Recreation Professional, Presidential Citation, and Senior Adult Professional of the Year—and induction into the GRPA Hall of Fame in 2012, as well as the University of Georgia Department of Recreation and Leisure Services Distinguished Alumni Award in 1991; and WHEREAS, Vicki Pilgrim's passion, vision, and unwavering commitment have touched countless lives, fostering a sense of community, purpose, and joy among participants across generations; and WHEREAS, her work stands as a model of public service, demonstrating the profound impact one individual can have in strengthening communities and uplifting others. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Vicki Pilgrim for her extraordinary contributions and extend their deepest appreciation for her years of dedicated service to the people of Georgia. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Vicki Pilgrim.
