House Resolution 212

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending the Juniors Running Club; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Juniors Running Club was established in 2013 with just 40 students from grades third through fifth; and

WHEREAS, the club currently operates out of Baldwin Elementary School in Norcross, Georgia, and has grown to include approximately 100 elementary school runners, 30 middle school runners, and 15 high school runners; and

WHEREAS, the club's teams have achieved significant competitive success, with its elementary school runners winning multiple cluster races against six elementary schools in the Norcross cluster and its middle school team earning numerous podium finishes since it began competing in cross country in 2014; and

WHEREAS, the middle school runners finished the 2016 and 2019 seasons with remarkable perfect season records, ranking seventh in the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, in 2017, the Juniors Running Club was awarded the Arthur Blank Scholarship, providing over 100 pairs of new Mizuno running shoes to its elementary and middle school athletes; and

WHEREAS, the club has competed several times at the Junior Olympics Nationals and Regionals, including in Birmingham, Alabama, in 2016; Tallahassee, Florida, in 2017 and 2019; Charleston, South Carolina, in 2018; Madison, Wisconsin, in 2019; Lexington, Kentucky, in 2020 and 2021; and Louisville, Kentucky, in 2024 at the Middle School Nationals; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the Juniors Running Club is to promote movement and fitness through the sport of running, prepare runners for high school cross country and track competition, and serve as ambassadors for the sport and their schools; and

WHEREAS, these magnificent teams have earned their well-deserved reputation for excellence, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that their extraordinary accomplishments be appropriately honored.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend the Juniors Running Club for its many exemplary victories as well as extend best wishes for continued success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Juniors Running Club.
