A RESOLUTION
Commending the remarkable career and lifelong dedication of Amy Morton for her
exemplary service in advocacy, leadership, and community organizing within Macon-Bibb
County and the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Amy Morton has dedicated over 20 years to policy and civic organizing at the
local, state, and federal levels, establishing herself as a strong and successful advocate for
advancing progressive issues; and
WHEREAS, her leadership in the nonprofit sector includes co-founding Better Georgia in
2011, where her experience helped grow the state's largest and most effective progressive
nonprofit; and
WHEREAS, she has served as the founding CEO of Southern Majority, providing vital
assistance to numerous nonprofit organizations, universities, and foundations—her strategic
guidance has been instrumental in crafting victories for a wide range of candidates, from
local municipal leaders to state legislators and national figures; and
WHEREAS, as a leader in community campaigns, Amy Morton led the Macon-Bibb
Forward Together initiative in 2021 to pass the first-ever OLOST for Macon-Bibb County,
a measure that passed with over 80 percent of the vote and resulted in one of the largest
property tax cuts in state history; and
WHEREAS, she has successfully led multiple independent expenditure campaigns and ballot
initiatives, including local SPLOST and ESPLOST campaigns that support critical
community infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, her commitment to the welfare of Macon-Bibb families is further evidenced by
her professional work as a licensed marriage and family therapist and her volunteer service
on the Bibb County School District ESPLOST Advisory Committee for several years; and
WHEREAS, she has further demonstrated her dedication to local safety and well-being
through her firm's management of the Macon Violence Prevention program on behalf of the
county; and
WHEREAS, beyond her professional consulting, Amy Morton has served in significant
leadership roles, including Chair of the Board of Directors for Georgia WIN List from 2009
to 2011, where she helped elect a record 26 of 28 endorsed women to the Georgia legislature,
and she has contributed to the Democratic Party of Georgia as a member of the Executive
Committee and as Platform Committee Chair; and
WHEREAS, Amy Morton has been recognized by the community and peers for her
outstanding commitment, receiving the Viola Ross Napier Trailblazer Award in 2011 and
the Extra Mile Award from Bibb County Public Schools in 2004; and
WHEREAS, her legacy is defined by a deep personal commitment to civic engagement,
fundraising for progressive causes, and a firm belief that public education is critical
infrastructure essential for community success.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body commend Amy Morton for her extraordinary contributions to
advocacy, her unwavering leadership within Macon-Bibb County and the State of Georgia,
and her lifelong dedication to championing community improvement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Amy
Morton.
