House Resolution 2126

A RESOLUTION
Honoring and recognizing the Atlanta's John Marshall Law School Law Journal; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS, on April 2, 2026, a group of Atlanta's John Marshall Law School Law Journal
students visited the state capitol at the invitation of Representative Tyler Paul Smith; and
WHEREAS, Atlanta's John Marshall Law School was founded in 1933 as an independent,
freestanding educational institution dedicated to providing a quality educational opportunity
to non-traditional or adult learners and to other significantly underserved segments of
Georgia's citizenry; and
WHEREAS, the John Marshall Law Journal is an annual legal periodical consisting of
contributed Articles, Student Notes and Comments, and Legislative Summaries. The featured
articles focus on a single, timely area of state, federal, or international law, while Student
Notes and Comments cover a wider variety of other jurisprudence. The Legislative
Summaries are concise, detailed descriptions of pending or recently enacted Georgia
legislation and the effects that said legislation will have on the Georgia community. In the
spring, the journal hosts a symposium at which the authors of the published pieces in the
Spring issue, panelists, and attendees examine recent and pending legislation, significant
court decisions, student commentary, and contributions by preeminent Georgia scholars and
practitioners; and
WHEREAS, the annual symposium of the John Marshall Law Journal is a Continuing Legal
Education (CLE) event as well, for which the law journal applies to the State Bar of Georgia
annually for approval of CLE credits to be earned by attendees. As a service to the Georgia
Bar and the legal community of the state, the law journal charges no tuition for attendance
at the CLE event. Typically, the event is approved for six hours of Georgia CLE, including
one hour of ethics; and
WHEREAS, the journal is led by an elected Editorial Board guided by a Faculty Advisor.
Second, third, and fourth-year students from the full-time and part-time JD Program staff the
journal and receive invitations to join based on their academic success and writing skills. The
journal provides each member with additional educational opportunities by promoting
excellence in research, writing, and analytical skills. Journal staff members work
cooperatively with authors to further the journal's mission by creating, editing, and
publishing each issue; and
WHEREAS, the John Marshall Law Journal Members, Volume XIX, 2025-2026, include the
following: Madeline Townsend, Austin Cauffman, David Smith, Boz DelMundo, Jack
Landers, Chloe Strickland-Teems, Lee Lundy, Jory Peppelaar, Grace Vigar, and Christopher
Peters.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body honor and recognize the Atlanta's John Marshall Law School Law
Journal upon its recent visit to the state capitol for its many outstanding contributions of legal
scholarship as well as extend sincere best wishes for continued success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the
public and the press.
