By: Representatives Glaize of the 67th and Jackson of the 68th
A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Dereck Isaiah Reed; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Dereck Isaiah Reed is an 11th grade student at Global Impact Academy with
a deep passion for civil engagement, politics, neuroscience, debate, and philosophy; and
WHEREAS, he actively participates in numerous academic and extracurricular activities,
including the debate club, the Fulton County Youth Commission, the Future Business
Leaders of America, the AJC Black and Jewish Teen Initiative, tutoring, the National Honor
Society, and the Fulton County Advisory Council, while also playing basketball for
Creekside High School; and
WHEREAS, dedicated to community service and involvement, he is currently interning with
State Representative Lydia Glaize, where he engages in political initiatives and helps those
in need by distributing food and essentials; and
WHEREAS, beyond his academic and civic pursuits, he enjoys playing basketball, watching
podcasts, reading nonfiction, playing chess, and spending time with his family, friends, and
pet cat; and
WHEREAS, Dereck aspires to attend Howard University or another Historically Black
College or University (HBCU) as he pursues his goal of becoming a neurosurgeon; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding achievements of this
remarkable student be appropriately honored.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize and commend Dereck Isaiah Reed for his exceptional
student leadership and extend best wishes for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to
Dereck Isaiah Reed.
