A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Brother Alonza Anthony Bennett; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, Brother Alonza Anthony Bennett was initiated into the Beta Epsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. at Knoxville College on November 12, 1970; and
WHEREAS, Brother Bennett holds a life membership in and is an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., and during his remarkable tenure, he has served in nearly every position within the organization; and
WHEREAS, Brother Bennett was one of twelve chartered members of the Kappa Alpha Alpha Chapter in Decatur, Georgia, where he also served as the first chapter basileus; and
WHEREAS, he was elected as the vice Georgia state representative from 1984 to 1985 and later served as the sixth Georgia state representative from 1985 to 1987, during which time he provided leadership and guidance that strengthened the fraternity's presence and influence across the state; and
WHEREAS, he further served simultaneously as the chief of staff for the 36th Grand Basileus Lloyd J. Jordan as well as the sixth international executive director of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.; and
WHEREAS, he continued his legacy of service as chief of staff to the late Brother Ronald J. Taylor, Georgia's 12th state representative; and
WHEREAS, his commitment to excellence has been recognized by his peers through the many decorations and awards he has received, including the Kappa Alpha Alpha Chapter's Omega Man of the Year Award, the Seventh District Omega Man of the Year Award, the Superior Service Award, the Distinguished Service and Leadership Award, and more; and
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this outstanding individual be appropriately honored for his 50 years of devoted service to his fellow citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Brother Alonza Anthony Bennett for his many remarkable contributions and lifetime commitment to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. as well as extend best wishes for future health and happiness. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Brother Alonza Anthony Bennett.
