House Resolution 240 By: Representatives Stephens of the 164th, Petrea of the 166th, Jackson of the 165th, Westbrook of the 163rd, Hitchens of the 161st, and others A RESOLUTION Commending the City of Savannah and Mayor Van R. Johnson on the Mayor on the Move: Healthy Savannah Kids Club; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Mayor Van R. Johnson and the City of Savannah were recently selected as one of nine winning cities across the United States for the 2025 Childhood Obesity Prevention & Environmental Health & Sustainability Awards; and WHEREAS, the American Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America and the United States Conference of Mayors presented the award during the 93rd Winter Meeting of the United States Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C.; and WHEREAS, the Georgia Beverage Association and the American Beverage Association have a long history of supporting programs that address childhood obesity, environmental health, and sustainability by encouraging community members to engage in healthier behaviors; and WHEREAS, the City of Savannah was selected for its innovative approach to health and wellness, as exemplified by its Mayor on the Move: Healthy Savannah Kids Club program; and WHEREAS, the Mayor on the Move: Healthy Savannah Kids Club is a passport-based program featuring activities across seven health domains: social, emotional, physical, intellectual, environmental, spiritual, and financial; and WHEREAS, the program's target audience of middle school students and their families will receive a Healthy Savannah Kids Club passport, which provides opportunities to support the whole child's health and development, with pages designated for passport stamps earned through participation in activities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the City of Savannah and Mayor Van R. Johnson for their outstanding achievement in developing the Mayor on the Move: Healthy Savannah Kids Club initiative and their commitment to fostering a comprehensive approach to youth health and community wellness. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
