A RESOLUTION

Recognizing January 21, 2025, as Addiction Recovery Awareness Day; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, substance use disorders and mental illness affect millions of individuals of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds as well as their families, friends, coworkers, and communities; and

WHEREAS, more than 29 million Americans, including 900,000 Georgians, are building lives in recovery from substance use disorders and mental illness; and

WHEREAS, recovery saves lives, restores families, strengthens communities, and builds a stronger workforce, making Georgia a safer and healthier state; and

WHEREAS, peer-led recovery community organizations across our state continue to educate the public and policy makers on the need for access to prevention, treatment, and peer-based recovery support systems; and

WHEREAS, the voice of the recovery community is the single most important voice in the recovery process; and

WHEREAS, on Addiction Recovery Awareness Day and throughout the year, we recommit ourselves to helping Georgians who are seeking the treatment they need and we celebrate Georgians who are embracing a life of recovery.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize January 21, 2025, as Addiction Recovery Awareness Day in the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the press.
