A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network in
Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) empowers
advocates across all states to raise their voices and influence evidence-based public policy
changes aimed at reducing the cancer burden in Georgia and beyond; and
WHEREAS, since 2001, ACS CAN has served as the nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy
affiliate of the American Cancer Society, successfully securing billions of dollars in cancer
research funding, expanding access to quality, affordable health care, and advancing proven
tobacco control measures; and
WHEREAS, an estimated 66,000 Georgians will be diagnosed with cancer and more than
19,000 Georgians will lose their lives to the disease in 2025—ACS CAN is committed to
ensuring that these individuals will have access to fair and equitable care; and
WHEREAS, cancer patients face a multitude of challenges beyond their medical diagnoses,
including physical, emotional, and financial burdens that affect their quality of life; and
WHEREAS, effective policies aimed at cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment not
only have the potential to save countless lives but also significantly reduce the financial
strain that this disease places on individuals and the state as a whole; and
WHEREAS, as Georgia continues to navigate complex legislative decisions, efforts to
combat cancer remain more critical than ever in providing comprehensive support for
patients and survivors; and
WHEREAS, ACS CAN and its dedicated volunteers—many of whom have been personally
impacted by cancer—continue to rally for meaningful policy changes and champion cancer
care as a top priority at the federal, state, and local levels.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
the members of this body recognize and commend the American Cancer Society Cancer
Action Network in Georgia for its many outstanding contributions on behalf of the citizens
of this state and beyond as well as extend best wishes for continued success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the
American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network in Georgia.
